Busadco phenomenon
Undeniably, BUSADCO is a phenomenon when the Company operates in the field of public services as urban sewerage and development of a local but it is famous for the technological products and patents.
Up to now, the company has owned 30 scientific works and utility solutions. The company has innovated new technologies in the field of mechanical technology manufacturing machinery, biotechnology and technology of building materials serving construction of infrastructure and environmental protection.
Of which, 23 products have been widely applied, 16 products are issued the patent and utility solutions, 13 products were approved in the list for establishing Vietnamese standards by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
If counting the dense appearance of this brand in local, international and Asia - Pacific region awards in the field of science and technology ..., then nobody thought that BUSADCO is an enterprise in the field of urban sewerage and development.
Bringing this phenomenon to ask the person leading the company, Director- Mr. Hoang Duc Thao, he shared very simply in a pure economic way: "These products are bringing main source of revenue in production - business, accounting for 85% revenue of the company. Particularly, in recent years, when the economy is in difficulties, many companies are loss-making, even bankruptcy, but we have still maintained a high growth rate. In two consecutive years, we are in the ranking list of 500 fastest growth businesses in Vietnam ".
Saying like that, but it took 10 years with numberless difficulties for Mr. Thao and his company to create a phenomenon in researching and applying science & technology.
Mr. Thao said, 10 years ago, he was in front of a very difficult choice when taking over and managing a scanty resource which could not meet the requirements of the assigned tasks. With a small capital of 10 billion VND, 32 employees (24 unskilled workers), there were not anyone trained about sewerage and there were not any drainage and environmental engineers but had to resolve countless pressing issues of urban drainage and environment of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.
Not discuss about the management mechanisms, the organization operated unscientifically, passively and dispersedly, Mr. Thao said, particularly the workers had to work directly with the toxic sludge with rudimentary and manual tools, it harms to their health,... that made the company leaders felt insecure.
“At that time, we are almost passively in preventing the inundation situation, we could not solve the current state of environmental pollution but only scoped with passively and remedied according to the situation. Seeing the inundation occurs constantly, many roads turned into rivers when it is raining, the urban infrastructure system was only invested in some main roads, and the rest were incomprehensive, old and patchy ..., being the one who was assigned the tasks, we have to find the way to fulfil the responsibility, then earn a living in order to make the workers’ life less tough”, Mr. Thao said.
Currently, Busadco becomes the leading company in urban drainage sector of the country, contributing significantly to improve the urban environment of the province, satisfying the requirement of sustainable development, contributing to the development of the socio-economic of the local and the country.
The company is also the Employer of the construction investment projects of drainage system and environmental protection. Many Busadco products are widely applied in the whole country and exported to some ASEAN countries, such as Malaysia and Laos. The company also built a series of technological plants in the country, from Dong Anh - Hanoi, Kien Xuong – Thai Binh; Vinh City - Nghe An, Nha Trang City - Khanh Hoa to many provinces in the Eastern South of Vietnam... Mr. Thao said, the company is preparing to invest in building plants in the Southwest Provinces.
Passion resonance
Mr. Thao has passion for scientific research; this predominant characteristic is mentioned by anybody who knows him. But frankly saying, he is a practical director.
"The passion, dedication willpower is a lot, but the main point is still taking the revenues covers expenditures, mastering the technology, orienting the market, making investment decision in a reasonable manner, balancing, self-compensating the cost to maintain and regenerate in accordance with the sustainable development orientation", he affirmed.
The way he talked about the passion for scientific research is the same, with a rotation with the start and destination points, based on the defined criteria. Starting with observing the reality then generating ideas, after that calculating, selecting useful solution, setting up the plants, followed by manufacturing products, selling the products under the principles of ensuring balance of revenues - expenditures...
"This way has many difficulties and obstacles, so we must calculate, take the risks, self-invest for scientific research from profit after tax", he talked a lot about the human resource which has technical & creative skills, they can link production – trading with scientific research that he had. "No matter in which position, every member of Busadco while performing assigned tasks, they must study, create and seeking for the best solution for each job, as a driving force in demand, inherent passion in each person", he said.
Director Hoang Duc Thao also talked a lot about the principles that he and his company is abiding, it is taking the scientific creation and technology to be the breakthrough for the new development process...
However, there is one thing that he has not mentioned yet, it is pervasion of passion for scientific research of the leader to each employee. Looking at the list of initiatives, the products applied science and technology, we can see the urgent elements serving for the work of the company very well. It is possible to mention about the useful products such as precast manholes with thin walls in conjunction with joints with the solution of flexible coupling, technical trenches in urban area; precast reinforced concrete curb, precast reinforced concrete garbage cans and plant pots combined, on-site treatment system for wastewater from hotels and restaurants...; or the products for new rural construction such as precast reinforced concrete with thin walls applying for irrigation, reinforced concrete slabs for paving rural street, system of storage tanks, septic tank...
Only his passion will not be enough to create the Busadco phenomenon in scientific researchers.
Sharing about the past 10 years, Mr. Thao still considers this is the first stage. "The mission and ambition of Busadco is improving and upgrading the urban and rural technical infrastructure system and protecting the environment. Those missions require us to further enhance our responsibility to community and society." Mr. Thao said.
In the plan of the upcoming years, Mr. Thao mentioned about the new generation of products and application of products to meet modern requirements, synchronization, usefulness for against climate change, protect sustainable environment...

It is the simile of the journalists; I am just a person who has passionate for science. But to be honest, this name also gives me the pressure as well as motivation that forced me to be more responsible for protecting the environment for the community. What do you think about a prejudice saying that state-owned enterprises in the public sector are normally operating less effectively? It is important to set operation target to common interest when performing the work. As we are a public enterprise in the field of drainage under the form of getting the orders from the investors, competent departments or urban authorities. Operating in the field of drainage and urban development, what do you think is the most difficult thing? The most difficult thing is to ensure the quality of drainage, flood control and prevention of wastewater environmental pollution. What helped Busadco being awarded the title of Labor Hero?
