In the afternoon of 26th December, the Journalist Association of Viet Nam, Club of Scientific and technological Journalists (S&T) organized a ceremony to announce 10 outstanding scientific and technological events in 2012.
10 outstanding scientific and technological events are evaluated by over 50 journalists specializing in the field of science and technology according to 5 fields, including: Policy mechanism; social sciences, humanities and nature; science and technology; honoring the scientists and international cooperation.
Promulgating the 6th Central Resolution (Session XI) on science and technology development
On 1st November, the Central Committee promulgated the 6th Conference Resolution of the of Central Committee of the Party - Session XI on developing science and technology in order to serve the industrialization and modernization in the condition of the socialist-oriented market and international integration.
With the viewpoint of Scientific and Technological development and application being the leading national policy, being one of the most important driving forces for the socio-economic development and country defense; being a content that should be invested as a priority ahead for the operation of the industries, levels, the Resolution stated some main objectives: by 2020, Science and Technology of Vietnam will reach the development level of the group of ASEAN leading countries. By 2020, through total factor productivity (TFP) Scientific and Technological activities will contribute about 35% of economic growth. Some national products under Vietnamese brand will be set up. The Scientific and Technological staffs with high qualification, dedication, honesty ... shall be synchronously formed.
Promulgating the development strategy of science and technology for the stage of 2011-2020
On 11th April, the Prime Minister issued the Decision on approving the development strategy of science and technology for the stage of 2011-2020. The strategy clearly stated: in the mentioned period, Science and Technology should be focused on synchronously implementing 3 main tasks: continuing to renovate basically, comprehensively and synchronous the Scientific and Technological organization, management mechanism, operation mechanism; strengthening the national Scientific and Technological potential; promoting research and apply, connecting the Scientific and Technological development task with the socio - economic development task at all levels and industries.
The strategy outlined clearly the main required objectives: the speed of technology and equipment innovation will reach 10-15% per year for the stage of 2011-2015 and more than 20% per year for the stage of 2016-2020. The transaction value of scientific and technological market will increases with an average of 15-17% per year. The number of internationally published research themes using the state budget increases with an average of 15-20% per year. The total investment in science and technology will be expected to reach 1.5% of GDP in 2015 and more than 2% of GDP in 2020...
The belief and worship of Hung King was recognized as intangible cultural heritage, representation of humanity
Exactly at 06:09pm on 6th December, at the 7th session, the Intergovernmental Convention Committee 2003 for the conservation of intangible cultural heritage had officially recognized The belief and worship of Hung King in Phu Tho, Vietnam as intangible cultural heritage representing humanity. With the decision of UNESCO, The belief and worship of Hung King in Phu Tho would become the cultural asset of mankind.
More than 20 scientists of the Institute of Culture and Arts, the Institute of Han Nom worked seriously and urgently in the period of more than 2 years to complete the document and submit on time. The quality of the document was the important base for UNESCO to recognize The belief and worship of Hung King as intangible cultural heritage representation of humanity.
The presence of Internet in Vietnam for 15 years has promoted its efficiency
Up to November 2012, after 15 years of presence and putting into operation, the internet in Vietnam developed with great achievements. Vietnam is the country where the Internet’s speed of development was very fast with variety of Internet access services. Vietnam was ranked 18/20 countries with highest Internet users in the world. Up to the first quarter of 2012, this figure was 32.4 million people, accounted for 34.1% of Vietnamese population and 1.4% of the world population. Currently, all institutions of the machinery of the state, unions, businesses, schools and many families, individuals connected to get the resources and information on the Internet to serve their action.
Science and Technology playing an important role so that Son La hydroelectric power project can be completed 3 years earlier
On 23rd December, in Son La province, there was the inauguration ceremony of Son La hydroelectric power project which was completed 3 years earlier compared with the schedule that availed the State 30 thousand billion VND.
Almost all the important stages in Son La hydroelectric power project were implemented by thousand Scientific and Technological staffs, skilled workers. The key to success was the design process of dams and a series of new Scientific and Technological initiatives applied for the first time. The most remarkable was the technology of roller compacted concrete dam (RCC). The items of hydro mechanical equipment such as penstock, steel structure inside the concrete, pressure pipe, crane, lifting equipment... were completely imported from the foreign countries for last time, but now there many power companies could design and manufacture.
The transplant operation of stem cell for the cancer patient was successful
On 9th November 2012, Central Blood Transfusion and Hematology Institute informed that they successfully operated the stem cell transplantation for the patient, Ms. Hoang Thi Dieu Thuan who was blood cancer. This has not been the first stem cell transplantation at Central Blood Transfusion and Hematology Institute; however, this was a particularly complex case because the patient was treated for a long time. Up the present, the patient completely abated and was in recovery. On 9th November, Ms. Hoang Thi Dieu Thuan was discharged from hospital and instructed for monitoring. Thus, the stem cell transplantation was initially successful.
BUSADCO – Ba Ria – Vung Tau province won the Asia Pacific Quality Organization.
Ba Ria – Vung Tau Urban Sewerage and Development Company (BUSADCO) won the “Best in Class” Award of Global Performance Excellence Award (GPEA) organized by Asia Pacific Quality Organization (APQO) in 2012. BUSADCO is the only Vietnamese enterprise won the prize of great service – a type of Services Enterprise with the highest award of Vietnam in 2012 within the framework of this award.
Cedemex proved its effect for supporting the detoxification
Cedemex was the product of State scientific theme "Research and evaluation of the safety and effect of Cedemex for the second and third phases in supporting the detoxification (Opiates group)", this medicine was taken over by the State Science Council on 2nd August 2003. Cedemex was allowed to be used in 8 provinces and cities in the country (Hanoi, Hai Phong and Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Ho Chi Minh City, Long An, Dong Nai and Tien Giang) by the Ministry of Health acceptance. In 2010, the Critical Diseases Research And Treatment Institute was in collaboration with the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province to organize a pilot application for 50 drug addicts in the Center and monitoring in community within 24 months. After 30 months of monitoring in the community, the number of people not relapsing into drug addiction was 28%.
Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize in science and technology
On 18th February, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the State Award Council held an award ceremony of Ho Chi Minh Prize and State Prize in Science and Technology for 32 works and group of works in five fields: Social sciences and humanities, Natural sciences, Science and technology, Agricultural sciences, Medicine and pharmacy sciences.
In the afternoon on 1st September, in Hanoi, the State Council considering and offering Ho Chi Minh Prize, the State Prize for Science and Technology was in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Science and Technology to hold an award ceremony of Ho Chi Minh Prize and State Prize in Science and Technology in the field of defense - security in 2010 for the authors of 4 works, works group of science and technology in the fields of defense - security. 32 scientists representing 75 scientists, 17 the authors of 4 works, group of works received the rewards.
The commencement of Vietnamese Space Center
Vietnamese Space Center was officially commenced to construct on 19th September in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park, Ha Noi with the total capital of 54.4 billion JPY including 46.5 billion JPY is ODA fund of Japanese Government. This was one of the major projects on science and technology in Vietnam within 30 recent years. It was not only the beginning of a new step in the history of space technology in Vietnam but also the beginning of strategic cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in the field of space technology. The completion of Vietnamese Space Center is expected by 2020 and will be the most modern Space Center in Southeast Asia.
