In the afternoon of 1st October 2012, at Hanoi Horison Hotel, Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association (VWSA) and German Water Partnership (GWP) together with German Agency for International Cooperation, SEDD, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Urban Sewerage and Development Company, Vietnam Water and Environment Investment Corporation – JSC held a Seminar: "Establishment of a Vietnamese Water Competence Development Centre"
The seminar participants included Mr. Cao Lai Quang – Permanent Deputy Minister of Construction - Chairman of Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association, Ms. Jutta Frasch - German Ambassador in Vietnam and the representatives of agencies and organizations such as GIZ, GWP, Urban Infrastructure Department, VWSA and many local as well as foreign experts, managers, units, enterprises in water supply and drainage sector.
Presenting the welcome speech, Mr. Tran Quang Hung - Vice Chairman cum General Secretary of VWSA emphasized that water was a particularly important topic and development cooperation of the water sector not only required the action from the government but also the social efforts and the collaboration with businesses as well as the representative agencies for the businesses.
The Ambassador of Germany in Vietnam – Ms. Jutta Frasch was sharing happily: "German Water Partnership and Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association are on the way to the partner relationship to establish a Vietnamese Water Competence Development Centre. This relationship may help Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association to become a stronger business association in water sector. An association with such scale will be able to undertake the role of consulting the Government on water supply and sewerage. Moreover, the association can connect the needs of enterprises for training in order to submit to the Government. Both functions will be useful and necessary for the cooperation activities between two governments in water sector. In addition, they can also actively support the efforts of the German Government in vocational training."
At the end of the speech, Ms. Jutta Frasch hoped: "This useful seminar will bring many good results and hope that the partner relationship between German Water Partnership and Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association will become a model for cooperative relationship with the associations of other countries."
