Continuously for 20 years, since 1995, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations has been coordinating with the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the Central of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union... to implement the project of organization of The Vietnam Fund for Supporting Scientific and Technological Creations VIFOTEC (the Vietnam Science and Technology Creations now). The prize has been awarded to the scientists who are the authors of works with scientific and economic - social value.

Core SSA winning the VIFOTEC Awards in 2013 was applied effectively in the Vietnam Nectokin Company.

The Vietnam Science and Technology Creations Award has focused on the major Scientific and Technological field of the State such as: biology serving life and production; information technology, electronics and communication; mechanics and automation; material technology; technology for environment protection and reasonable resources usage; technology for energy saving and use of new energy. In the past 20 years, there have been nearly 2,200 works participating and nearly 700 works winning the Award. The works winning the Award continued to be widely used in production and life, solving the practical requirements and bringing highly social and economic efficiency. The Award has resounded and had a great reputation in the scientific circles, research institutes, universities, enterprises and in the whole country. Although the prize money for the winning works is not much, the scientists have been still eager to participate because it is truly a useful playground to encourage and honor the creators in the whole country. Annually, the ceremony of summing-up and awarding is usually organized formally at Hanoi Opera House. From 2001 to present, every year, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) evaluates and awards the WIPO Award to the best works, to the best female author and to the best and youngest author.

In 2014, the Organization Committee awarded the prizes to 40 works in 6 fields including: 4 first prizes, 7 second prizes, 11 third prizes and 18 consolation prizes. On this occasion, the Prime Minister awarded the Certificates of Merit to 12 individuals as the heads and co-heads of the works winning the top prize.

The organization of Vietnam Science and Technology Creations Award in 20 years has succeeded due to the positive and enthusiastic contribution of the Ministries, branches, localities and economic groups.

Among the units actively participating in and receiving many awards, it is mentioned the Directorate of Defense Industry (Ministry of Defense), Ba Ria - Vung Tau Urban Sewerage and Development One Member Limited Company (BUSADCO), FITOHOOCMON Joint Stock Company (FITOHOOCMON). These units won the first, second, third, consolation prizes and WIPO award (WIPO awarded to the best works and to the enterprise excellently applying the intellectual property system in production and business).

The Vietnam Science and Technology Creations Award has achieved many good results. To have these results, the leaders from the central to local levels have been increasingly interested in the activities of research and application, science and technology creations as well as the technical innovation and improvement movements. The organization of this Award is so more and more prestigious that it can attract a large number of scientists and people to participate and be highly appreciated by society. It is also the justice, transparency playground to timely encourage and honor for scientists and creators in the whole country.

In fact, in 20 years of organizing this Award, some limitations and inadequacies of the mechanism and policies have still affected the Award quality. The competent authorities should have policies protecting the intellectual property rights to protect the legal rights and interest of the creators. They should also establish a system of intellectual property and scientific - technological services to provide a link between the scientists and enterprises in order to bring scientific products into the life. The Government should have the policy to encourage the use of domestic products replacing the imported ones with cheaper price, faster service and equivalent quality. Besides, there should be the policy deducting a commission from the profits generated by the works and measures to award the authors who have created and organized the application of scientific and technological products in the life. Moreover, there should be policies helping the scientists to enrich themselves by their own products. The Government should loan from the National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED) to widely apply the successful research works, especially the works winning the Award with high economic efficiency was self invested, researched and applied by the enterprises.

In the last 20 years, the Vietnam Science and Technology Creations Award has become the motivate power to encourage the scientists, creators in the whole country to eagerly contribute their intelligence to the scientific and technological development and contribute to social - economic development of the country.
